The folks at Turtle Mountain Creamery had a real problem on their hands. They had constructed a huge multi-story deep freeze chiller just 20 feet from the property line, which was where a neighborhood sub-division began. The noise was deafening and people were complaining. They subsequently called in a Registered Acoustical Engineer. He visited the site, took sound level measurements, and recommended the ASC SoundFence.

Better Than a Concrete Barrier
The engineer could have recommended a concrete barrier, but that would not have fixed the problem. A barrier wall just 20 feet from the multi-story chiller sets up a "racquetball" effect, where continuous loud sound bounces off parallel surfaces and gets launched over the top of the wall and into the neighboring house. He wanted a noise absorbing wall, like the ASC SoundFence, to literally make the noise go away.

The engineer calculated that a 10 foot high SoundFence would reduce the noise level by 20 dB, a full 50% reduction overall, which brought Turtle Mountain into compliance with City noise ordinances.

A Successful Outcome
The addition of the ASC SoundFence was all that was necessary to avoid a potential lawsuit from the neighbors. Before the engineer's detailed report, there were concerns the project would run into many tens of thousands of dollars.

Now Turtle Mountain can get back to doing what it does best, making really delicious non-dairy ice cream products.
