ASC was recently tasked with providing one of its signature Attack Wall systems to Grace Recording Studio of Maui, Hawaii.
The studio decided to convert to ASC bass traps after owner/operater Bob Plotnik attended In the Studio with Bruce Swedien, the in-depth studio workshop of famed producer and long time ASC user Bruce Swedien. Plotnik said he could hear the difference in the studio which had been treated with an ASC attack wall and bass traps.
"I thought my room was good until I listened to Bruce's," said Plotnik. "It was on another level. It made me realize how correct that room was. It changed my way of thinking."
Plotnik commented on how the first thing he noticed after installing his new Attack Wall was that the sound coming from his monitors tended to wrap around the console more, as opposed to bouncing off the walls. The resulting effect was that you could hear the speakers with more fidelity, resulting in a better mix.
In addition to the Attack Wall, the studio also utilizes several ASC 24" fractional TubeTraps, StudioTraps, and a Billie Jean Kick Drum Cover.
"I love [ the Billie Jean Kick Drum Cover]. It gives you the big kick but gates it at the same time. I bought the first one ASC made. I leave it on my drum, never take it off."
Plotnik continues to be pleased with the addition of ASC products to his studio. "It's just a beautiful thing and worked perfectly once we installed it. It just made everything sound so correct, just like Bruce's room."
"Ramsees was up here recently," Plotnik added, referring to Ramsees Mechan, Bruce Swedien's mixing assitant and manager of In the Studio with Bruce Swedien, "and just said this room sounded beautiful, that he really wanted to come back here and bring some sessions."
